@isaacgreene I guess neither? It’s all woven with bobbins and then you use pins to hold it in place. I’ll add the closest thing to a process photo that I have (though in a new post since I can’t add a photo to a reply)

@elliotlovegrove @ablerism also, surprisingly mathematical! A lacemaker I know teaches a class on lace making at Johns Hopkins, and she says her (mostly science-focused) students really get into it and thrive

@tracydurnell not intentional, but I see it. :) I have always liked winding linear designs like this—which means I’ve also always appreciated that kind of dragon!
